Kamoenai Village is the second least populated village in Hokkaido, located on the west side of the Shakotan Peninsula (as of January 2019). The fishing industry, which has prospered since the Edo period, has been forced to decline due to the decline in catches and the lack of succession. Local governments, local companies, and Fujitsu have collaborated to introduce Fishtech® aquaculture management. A demonstration experiment of sea urchin and sea cucumber land-based aquaculture, which is a special product, started in earnest in the spring of 2019.
